Fading

This work is a series of portraits of my mother and I depicted on two curtains. The references for these portraits come from old family photos. All except for the images of my mother before she had me come from photos of my mother and I together. In this work I have separated us on to our own curtains, creating lines of disconnect and absence apparent in the portraits. The details on the portraits lessen as the images become more recent as my mother's Alzheimers affects her short term memory significantly. The images also change depending on the light coming through the windows which represents the subjectivity of memory and how the smallest shift of light changes the whole image.
